It’s #TrusteesWeek! The time of year when we celebrate the amazing contribution made by trustees for their charities and recognise the difference they make. We thought what better way to do this than by introducing our Trustees and speaking to them about what they have learnt.
Celebrating our 10th Anniversary this November has been an extraordinary achievement and it has set a firm goal in our Trustees’ minds to ensure Kyra fully recovers from the pandemic, which affected many charities ability to function and fundraise, and to ensure that we not only survive but thrive for another 10 years.
We have 4 established Trustees who have been with Kyra for at least a year:
Our newly appointed Chair is one of our 4 Nicolas, Nicola Winter, who through her keen finance expertise focuses on, you guessed it, the Finance and risk of Kyra. As Chair of Finance committee she works closely with other Trustees and our CEO and Finance Officer to look at ways to improve the sustainability of Kyra. Speaking with Nicola, she reflected on her role as a Trustee, “I have learnt how capable I am and how much I have to give back. As the Chair I have been able to use my skills and learn new ones whilst always keeping the purpose of my role in mind to ensure Kyra can deliver the services to its members.”
Our Vice-Chair role is filled by Nicola Shepherd who will be focussing on Health and Safety, Helen Bradley utilises her skills as Corporate and Philanthropy Manager at the University of York to Chair our Fundraising and Marketing Committee and Victoria Remington-Smith will be focusing on Safeguarding, an essential area for Kyra as we support women throughout York. The vast skills they bring are essential to Kyra and we couldn’t be more grateful.
Our cohort of new volunteers is made up of Jo Simister, who will be focusing on HR, staff recruitment and training , Nicola Walker will be working with staff on quality and complaints so that we continue to improve, volunteering and Kyra will have the keen focus of Nicola Clemmit and our newest volunteer Katherine Baxter will be focusing on finance once she gets to know Kyra.
Nicola Clemmit kindly discussed with us her experience as a new Trustee.
“Being new to Kyra earlier this year what has been lovely to see is what a great staff and volunteer community Kyra has, filled with talented, kind, hard working and community minded women making a real different to our local community in York. Kyra has just turned 10 this year, I’m looking forward to contributing to what the next 10 years of Kyra provide and building on the great foundations of those before me and the current Board.”
Kyra is very lucky to have 8 passionate and knowledgeable Trustees who are assisting in the development on our Charity, each with a key focus on an area so that they can best support us.
