This week Kyra Women’s Project has been celebrating its 8th birthday. Founded in 2013 by Yvonne Copley, who was also CEO of the charity until September last year, Kyra has been helping women in York and surrounding areas to make positive changes in their lives.

The anniversary was celebrated by Kyra members and volunteers at two drop-in sessions this week with balloons, cakes and a special birthday cake.

It is particularly appropriate that the anniversary falls in the week that marks the start of 16 days of action against domestic abuse, as many women who come to Kyra are recovering from this trauma. Rosemary Cook, current CEO of Kyra, spoke about this on Greatest Hits radio on 25 November – White Ribbon day – focusing on the need for long term help and support to enable women to recover from the effects of domestic abuse.
