Kyra’s Patron, Downton Abbey and After Life actress Dame Penelope Wilton, was in Kyra this week to unveil a special wall hanging celebrating both the Queen’s Jubilee and the strength and resilience of the women who come to Kyra. The project to produce the wall hanging was funded by the National Lottery and Arts Council England, through Two Ridings Foundation. It saw members coming together in four workshops in May to design and produce the ‘Tree of Life’ hanging in which leaves are embroidered with words about what Kyra means to its members. These include freedom, compassion, caring and sisterhood. The hanging was unveiled by Dame Penelope at a special Jubilee party attended by around 50 of Kyra’s members and volunteers.

The hanging will have pride of place in the large room used by members for drop-in sessions, and may also be seen by the public in some of the York Museums Trust properties.
