Join us on Friday 7th March, for Kyra’s International Women’s Day 2025 celebration! From 10am to 4pm at Central Methodist Church (in the big hall downstairs), we’ll come together to celebrate women, foster connection, and empower our community.
In today’s blog post, we’ll give you a sneak peek at what to expect on the day.
What to Expect at This Year’s Event
With the theme “Moving forward, looking forward,” the event this year celebrates resilience, progress, and community connections. It brings together a diverse range of local organisations and charities dedicated to empowering women and supporting their wellbeing.
This year’s International Women’s Day event at Kyra promises a variety of activities to inspire, connect, and support women in our community.
- Expert Talks
This year, we’re excited to announce that David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, will be speaking at Kyra IWD’s event.
In keeping with this year’s theme, Mayor Skaith will share his vision for the future on how York can continue moving forward on gender equality and community-focused growth. Mayor Skaith will explore current and planned initiatives supporting women’s wellbeing in our area, insights on how local policy can help address issues such as domestic abuse, mental health support, economic opportunities for women, and how Kyra and organisations like Kyra fit into those visons and plans.
- Helpful Stalls
Alongside these talks, you can explore stalls from organisations that align with Kyra’s mission, offering resources and advice.
This year, we’ll feature stalls from York Women’s Counselling, Victim Support, and IDAS, among many others. Plus, there’ll be stalls giving practical advice on legal and financial matters, such as Crombie and Wilkinson.
- Taster Sessions
Upstairs in the usual Kyra space, join one of our exciting taster sessions: - Group Coaching with Bryony Rowntree (11:30am–12:30pm): Gain insights and strategies for personal growth in this supportive session. Limited to 12 participants. Taking place upstairs in the Kyra living room.
- Mini Massage Sessions with Veronica (1:00–2:30pm): Enjoy a brief 15-minute hand, arm, or face massage to melt away tension. Slots available for booking. Taking place upstairs in one of the counselling rooms.
- Sound Bath with Gladys (2:30–3:30pm): Relax and recharge as soothing sound waves create a meditative experience. Limited to 12 participants. Taking place upstairs in the Kyra living room.
If you are Kyra’s member, keep an eye out for our monthly newsletters to book onto these sessions.
- Tombola and Prizes
Try your luck in our tombola to win exciting prizes, including a family ticket to York’s Chocolate Story and other tasty treats.
- Tasty Refreshments
Plus, enjoy delicious food from our wonderful cookery teacher, Sally. She’ll be providing a variety of options, including tasty vegan dishes, to keep you energised while you connect with others throughout the day.
Plus, if you arrive for 10am you can enjoy a free hot drink and pastry!
