Zoe Metcalfe, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) for North Yorkshire, visited Kyra this week to learn about our work and speak to our members. The PFCC has previously funded Kyra counselling for women who have experienced domestic abuse, as well as the ‘Safe and Strong’ programme which combined self-defence courses with a self-esteem programme.

Commissioner Zoe was really interested in our ways of working, and the services we provide. She was particularly keen to hear about The Freedom Programme, which helps women recover from domestic abuse. During her visit she sat down with members during a drop-in session to ask them about their experiences of police and crime-related services, and any gaps they might have identified in the delivery of these.

Rosemary Cook, CEO of Kyra, said: “It was really good to be able to welcome Commissioner Zoe and her colleague Amanda Bowers to Kyra. The PFCC has been a generous funder for some of our work and it was nice to have a chance to say thank you, as well as showing the Commissioner the breadth of our work.”
