A ‘pop-up’ Kyra event in the village of Acklam, 13 miles from York, has raised more than £1000 for the York-based Kyra Women’s Project. Organised by Caroline Kitching, one of Kyra’s Ambassadors from a project supporting women in rural areas around York, the coffee morning included a raffle and a tombola with prizes generously donated by local businesses. Caroline said: “As an Ambassador, I’ve been putting up posters and talking to women around my local area, directing them to Kyra for support they need it. I was excited to be able to hold this event, which let more people know about Kyra and also raised some funds for the charity. A lot of people were still wary about meeting people indoors so we had lots of donations dropped in and plenty of raffle tickets sold.”

As well as raising funds, the event was an opportunity for Caroline to talk to local people about the support offered by Kyra to women who may be isolated, unwell or in need of confidence-building because of their circumstances. Kyra offers courses and activities, opportunities to meet and talk to other women, and counselling.
