We were delighted to welcome Mandy, Niki and Rachel from Beauty Out of Ashes on a visit Kyra recently. Beauty Out Of Ashes (BOOA) is a new organisation that has emerged out of the Reclaim Holloway campaign, which has sought to establish a women’s building on the site of the closed Holloway Prison in London. The group has just set up as a Community Interest Company and has been on a fact-finding tour of women’s centres in the North East. The group will start life using part of the building that has replaced the former Holloway women’s prison – creating something positive in what has been a less positive place in the past – while they fundraise for their own building.

BOOA is led by women with lived experience of Holloway, alongside community members, members of the women’s sector, artists, academics, and others. They are aiming to shape the vision and governance of the ‘women’s floor’ on the site provided by the developers. We were delighted to welcome them and tell them about the vision and dedication that started Kyra, almost 10 years ago.

You can see BOOA’s website here.
