On the 20th September, Kyra hosted its first professional conference ‘Making Positive Changes’. It was attended by 20 professionals from various organisations in York and had 9 different speakers doing presentations as well as a segment from 3 ROSE members, who were fantastic, and participation via videos and voice-recordings from other members.
The day kicked off with a fantastic Keynote speech from Prof Lynne Gabriel OBE who shared fascinating insights she had learnt about supporting victims of domestic abuse throughout her career in counselling and psychology. The morning presentations delved into Recovery from Domestic Abuse and research surrounding the topic. It was great to be able to showcase and discuss two of our support services at Kyra, our Freedom Course (designed by Pat Craven) and our flagship R2R Project, ran by project lead Anna Perrett.
The afternoon presentations focused on Impact, showcasing our member film The Stories You Want To Tell, discussing confidence coaching with Jules Wyman, the effectiveness and feedback of the Kyra method and listening to stories from our ROSE project members. It was such a great day showcasing the amazing work of Kyra and the incredible journey’s our member go on with us. We are very pleased with the feedback from attendees calling it “well organised, informative & enjoyable event” as well as “inspiring- especially the young ladies speaking in the afternoon- very powerful and shows just what incredible work you guys do at KYRA.”.
