Meet Helen Harrison, the dedicated Administrator for Kyra’s Route to Recovery project! Helen makes sure this vital program runs like clockwork, offering support to women as they recover from domestic abuse or mental health struggles.
Today, we’ll explore Helen’s contributions, the significance of the Route to Recovery project, and the transformative impact it’s having on our member’s lives.
Helen’s Role in Route to Recovery
As the Administrator for the Route to Recovery project, Helen is key to making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. She coordinates sessions, manages participant records, and takes care of the day-to-day details that keep the program moving forward.
Helen’s keen eye for detail makes sure every woman gets the support that she needs, when she needs it. She also ensures that the Route to Recovery team (Molly Charnock and Sherrie Wood) has everything in place to deliver their services effectively.
What Route to Recovery Aims To Do
The Route to Recovery project is a four-year initiative designed to help 240 women recover from domestic abuse or struggling mental health. With about 1 in 4 women in England and Wales having faced domestic abuse, and 1 in 5 dealing with mental health problems like depression and anxiety – programs like Route to Recovery are essential for maintaining women’s health and wellbeing.
Through ‘Pathways,’ the program offers customised routes, recommending Kyra services that best suit each member’s individual needs.
One example is the ‘Confidence Building’ pathway, which encourages members to participate in social drop-ins, confidence and assertiveness workshops, and other supportive Kyra activities.
Another pathway, ‘Back to Work,’ guides members toward our Rise2Thrive program, along with activities that boost self-esteem and personal development at Kyra. Each pathway is designed to provide women with the tailored guidance they need to heal and move forward.
Does it Work?
In a word? Yes.
The Route to Recovery project has already made a life-changing impact on its participants. As one woman shared:
“I didn’t realise what an impact this place would have, it’s life-changing already, and you can see that in the other women too. It does feel like a safe space.”
Route to Recovery provides a broad spectrum of services, enabling women to achieve powerful, positive changes in their lives.
With 51% of participants in 2023 needing support for both mental health and domestic abuse—up from 39% in 2022—the importance of Route to Recovery continues to grow and grow each year.
The Future of Route to Recovery
Working closely with Molly—who has been part of the team for a while—and Sherrie, who recently joined the project, Helen’s excited about the future of the project as it continues to support more women each year.
She’s eager to see the long-term goals achieved, including tailoring support pathways further and expanding the program’s reach to more women in need.
We encourage you to learn more about Kyra’s programs, support our initiatives, or get involved in any way you can.
