Empowering Growth Through Workshops at Kyra

At Kyra, we’re proud to offer a range of workshops and courses designed to support women’s growth and well-being. But we’re always adding new programs to better support our member’s needs.

In this post, we’ll explore our latest additions, including our Managing Emotions workshop and Habits, Goals, and Vision workshop, along with some returning favourites.

New Workshop Additions

We’re excited to debut two new workshops: Managing Emotions and Habits, Goals, and Vision. These three-hour sessions are part of Kyra’s ongoing workshop series, where each session includes interactive activities, videos, and take-home worksheets, designed to offer practical skills for everyday life.

The Managing Emotions workshop provides members with tools to regulate responses, navigate challenging situations, and find emotional balance. Learning these skills is especially valuable for members who may face complex personal challenges, helping them maintain a steadier, more positive outlook.

In Habits, Goals, and Vision, members focus on making positive choices and setting achievable goals. By developing healthy habits and envisioning their future, participants build a solid foundation for personal growth.

These workshops, along with long-standing sessions like Boundaries and Self-Care, Confidence and Assertiveness, and Positive Thinking, empower members to set personal boundaries, practice self-care, and foster confidence—vital steps in their journey of personal and emotional growth.

Upcoming Writing Group

In February 2025, we’re launching the Writing to Promote Wellness Women’s Group, a six-week course focused on boosting emotional well-being through supportive, guided writing activities. Open to all, this group requires no prior writing experience, and participants are free to share as much or as little of their work as they’d like.

Led by Consultant Clinical Psychologist Dr. Melanie Forster, this group offers a safe space for members to explore emotions, manage trauma, and deepen self-understanding. Through reflective exercises, participants gain new perspectives on life’s challenges and develop coping strategies to support their mental health.

If you’re a member who’s interested in joining, contact Dr. Forster at melanie.forster@york.ac.uk for more details, or to apply for a free place.

Returning Arts and Crafts Group

After a brief hiatus, our Arts and Crafts group is back, offering members a creative outlet with hands-on projects in a friendly, supportive space. Upcoming sessions are scheduled throughout November and December, and we hope to continue them next year. We’re also excited to expand accessibility with future sessions planned at the Friargate Meeting House.

Crafting brings both therapeutic and social benefits, allowing members to unwind, explore new themes and techniques, and express themselves in a relaxed environment. Whether working with paints, textiles, or other materials, members find joy and connection through creativity.
